What I First Thought of Duna

Description

This is another take on my favorite character from Fossil Fighters, the hottie Duna! Last time I drew her with her fan-created relatives, I only drew her battle form since I wasn't all that good with people yet. Well, I've been working on it and I think she looks really nice on both forms now. The title might be a little puzzling to some so let me elaborate. As you can probably tell, I drew Duna quite harshly for all the good things I say about her. Her battle form has blood and a ragged piece of flesh dripping down from her jaws and her anthropomorphic 'human' form looks like she trying to crack your skull! Not too nice for the babe I refer to her as. Well, that's because this is what I thought of Duna when I first say her in her true form at Mt. Lavaflow oh, probably three years ago. I mean, seriously, all she says after her disguise fails due to the heat at the center of the volcano is "I cannot let any human see my true form and get away." or something like that. Then she attacks you for no reason, just to get some 'tacky idol' that looks like some midget nerd tried his hand at programming! Yes, I know that the sub-idolcomps are really important to the dinaurians, the humans, and really just the plot of Fossil Fighters in general but I do think you were right to call them tacky idols in the beginning, because they are quite tacky! So anyway, yeah, she battles you head-on using herself in her beautiful battle form and two Dinomatons, which was technically impossible in the old game since you could only have one of each vivosaur. That was another thing, she had TWO Dinomatons, that TOTALLY threw me off since I had never seen a fighter use two of the same vivosaur (or in this case, robot alien grunt) before! But what was really got me the first time a drew arms with her was that she decides to battle you at Mt. Lavaflow, where 90% of fossils are fire-type. I mean, come on, it's a volcano for god's sake! So I go in there ready for some trail-blazing fire-based team with my Krona, my Shoni and some other vivosaur that I forget off the top of my head (probably another water-type or maybe Spinax for coverage because of his high-level). Then I go into battle only to realize that Duna's a water type... and to make it even better the Dinomitons are neutral-type so they have no weakness! That was wonderful, simply wonder... and to top it all off, my Shoni was like at level 5-7 or something like that and since Shoni is a slow developer, like Onyx, he SUCKED!!! I was throwing torpedo attacks that did dozens of damage at best (if they even hit) while she danced circles around me like the gorgeous princess she is, lashing out with her elegant skills as if I was moving in slow motion! I just barely made it through the battle and that is probably just because of Spinax (who, now that I think about it, was on my team simply because he was my highest-ranking vivosaur I had at the time). Then you realize that your battle has made the volcano dangerously active and another boulder falls onto Duna! And that's not even the best part! The best part is that the boulder obscures your only way home! It's just you on a tiny sliver of land surrounded by molten lava and a giant rock that is crushing the body of an alien dinosaur that tried to kill you. So, of course, you have to save her (which makes no sense because you couldn't break the first two boulders of equal size without her help yet you move this one like it's a feather!) Then she goes head-over-heels for you and sides with humanity with the whole Project: Mother Planet thing.

So yeah, that was my first take on Duna (or what she actually was, not her super-model human disguise!) I just replayed the original game so that's why I remember all the details so well. Might I say that the cleaning might be harder, the battles might be a little duller and the graphics might be far poorer than Champions but OH MY GOD, Fossil Fighters has a WAY batter plot! I mean, this shit is PURE GOLD! BEST GAME PLOT EVER!!! In comparison, Champions is like the pits and you all know me, I LIVE for that game!

Duna is unreasonably attractive for a dinosaur alien, I don't know why. Maybe it's just me but she's the cutest babe I've ever seen, alive or computer generated! She's everything I could ever want in a girl, including the whole 'turns into an extraterrestrial techi-colored Deltadromeus that tears anyone who gets in her way to shreds!' Yeah, that's a little piece of my heart for all those who think I'm sealed off!

You guys probably don't care about what my experience was with her at first or what I think of her, you just want to know what I did with this piece, don't you?! (Or maybe if you're a guy like me, you might want to see if that pink strap across her chest is hiding something! Hehe!) Anyways, I can understand that. As you guys can probably see, I tinkered with their models a little, Boydified them if you will! Her battle form doesn't really have Deltadromeus written all over it. It's a bit slime (not to mention small) for that. Some could say she looks more like a Ceolophysis but the jaws are wrong for that too. Regardless, I think she looks good as an undertiminable small theropod dinosaur, since she is an alien after all! Narrow jaws lined with needle-like teeth are sported by her sleek head attached to a s-shaped neck. Her forearms are long and her hands accurately pivoted (unlike some of my previous 'raptors'). Her hind legs are muscular up top but strangely narrow at the ankles but they sport large clawed feet that look like they can deal damage... and those wiry eyes definitely say they can! Now, for her humanoid form. Well, I left her more-or-less intaked... except for the small tweaks I made to her hands and feet. I wanted to make her look mean, so I put some sharp hooks, or claws, to the ends of her five fingers. Yes, I know that in the manga she can turn her hand into the classic three-clawed forearm of an average theropod dinosaur but I wanted to keep her humanoid side while still making her look fierce. I also didn't like the idea of giving a anthropomorphic dinosaur hooves... so I replaced them with the classic three-toed clawed feet of an average theropod! Yes, now she's REALLY a dinosaur! I'm not all that good with human faces yet so I took some inspiration on her mad face from the manga art of her charging at the police who try to arrest her when she first reveals herself in the manga (which happens to not only be in the Fighter Area of the town, but also just after she sicks her Dinomaton after the hero, Hunter! She never did give good first impressions...) The colors might be slightly off but they get the point across! All-in-all, she's HOT, even when she tried to kill me! Yep, that was the desired effect! I hope you guys feel the same way about it!

Now I'm gonna' try something I don't often do. After my whole description of the image, I'm going to add in some 'fluff words' as I hear them called:

Duna
Full Name: Duna Nichs
Human Age: 14
Favorite Food: Omeletes
Length: 10 ft (battle form)

States (what they should be):
LP: 550
Attack: 55
Defense: 40
Accuracy: 60
Evasion: 35

Duna Nichs is an exception dinaurian to say the least. Serving as one of the elites under King Dynal XVI himself, she is trained to be the best-of-the-best at what she does.

In battle, Duna is determined and can be very aggressive when threatened. Duna prefers a hit-and-run strategy, often trying to down her foes with a million cuts instead of a single fatal blow. However, Duna's accuracy is unmatched and she can quite easily hit devastating blows to soft spots and weak points of large foes. Duna's main weapon for attack his her powerful legs. Though slime at the ankles, powerful muscles line her hollow bones, giving her strong calfs that can not only propel her at great speeds but also deliver brutish kicks. Long, sharp claws on her feet are what deal most of the damage. However, her toes are somewhat small compared to other dinaurians and so her range is a little more limited. That is where her speed comes in, allowing her to get in close to deliver the kill blow. She has, like the rest of the dinaurians, lost her due claw to evolution as they lost a purpose in their intelligent civilization. Duna's next weapon of choice is her jaws. Slender and somewhat feebly, her maw cannot deliver a one-shot kill by any means. However, the needle-like teeth lining both her upper and lower jaws can deal hellish tear marks and shred flesh like scissors through paper. Her tactics often urge her to aim for the neck with such an attack, hoping to sever a vital organ or artery as she trashes her head about to dig her teeth in that much more. In extreme close-quarters, Duna will also wield her dagger-tipped hands in combat. Her arms are fairly short and are often tucked up against the body. However, when room becomes minimal and her agility runs low, she will extend them and use her hooked claws to anchor herself onto a foe to deliver further damage with her jaws and feet. Though short in stature, these arms are very muscular and can hold her entire body weight for a good period of time, allowing her to keep hold of the flanks of larger targets to get in extra blows. Her efforts can be fast and vicious but Duna always knows how to make combat look elegant. Every move, every step she takes is with the utmost delicacy, making it seem as if she dances across the battlefield, striking only when necessary. Her beauty is overwhelming that she will often confuse her opponents. When dazed, her foes will stagger off as if drunken, making it very hard for them to aim. They will sometimes even strike allies or themselves in their own confusion. This technique Duna has forged over the years has made her a vicious opponent and earned her a spot under the throne of King Dynal himself.

History:
Duna was sent to Earth from the dinaurian starship in high orbit to study this new species know as 'humans' that evolved on the planet. Once awakened from their stone sleep aboard their ship, the dinaurians realized that their efforts at Project: Mother Planet, the dinaurian attempt to re-create their old planet which was consumed by Guhnash by planting "seeds of intelligent life" containing their DNA in Early Earth, had failed and the sub-idolcomps had been lost. The humans were believed to be the failed attempt at Project: Mother Planet so Duna was sent to observe this new species and attempt to use them to obtain the sub-idolcomps which somehow fell to the planet while the dinaurians slept in stone sleep. While Duna was sent on her mission, King Dynal hired the BB Bandits as a second effort to get back the lost idols. The sub-idolcomps were pinpointed to a location know as Vivosaur Island, a large island with radical topographical fluctuations. Disguised as a human herself, Duna was the first to attempt and re-obtain the lost sub-idolcomps. She scoured the islands searching for the missing technology but a certain young Fossil Fighter, named Hunter, kept getting in her way... or so she though. He soon began digging up sub-idolcomps, quickly impressed even the intimidating beauty Duna with his skills. She decided to use him and his skills to obtain the sub-idolcomps. She allowed Hunter to travel across the island from the low-lying grasslands of Greenhorn plain to the shallow waters of Bottomsup Bay and continue collecting dinaurian technology. After several mouths of digging, Hunter finally gained possession of three of the four total sub-idolcomps required to finish Project: Mother Planet. Knowing this, Duna followed Hunter to the depths of the active Mt. Lavaflow to watch as he uncovered the final sub-idolcomp. With the last of the sub-idolcomps in his possession, Duna knew she had to make her move. Dedicated to serving her king, Duna demanded that Hunter give her the idols but the young fighter refused. However, not all went as planned. The intense heat from the center of the volcano made Duna's holographic human disguise malfunction and fade, revealing her true reptilian form to Hunter. Flustered, Duna assumed her battle form and attacked Hunter, refusing to let him escape alive after seeing her true form. However, Hunter was prepared and he fought back with his vivosaurs to the bitter end. After a bloody battle where teeth and claws were extended, Hunter came out on top. Though defeated, Duna was still not about to let Hunter live. Unfortunately for her, their battle made the active volcano uneasy and a massive boulder came down upon Duna's body as she attempted to blindside Hunter. Though almost killed by the graceful yet deadly Duna, Hunter's sympathy got the best of him and, using his pickax and the rest of his team, he managed to free Duna from the clutches of the massive stone. This act of kindness dumbfounded and confused Duna, making her question her very existence. For the first time in her life, she felt... love.

To be continued...

I hope enjoy and expect this picture redone in the 'What I Think of Duna Now' scenario!

PS: I hope I don't make her too revealing... despite what many of you may think, my goal is not to make her look like a pornstar, just "unbelievable sexy!" (That quoted was taken from Primeval: New World, stated by Mac Rendell in episode 105... I think?)
